Open source and the license
Thalermark is open source under the GNU AGPL v3. Everything described in these docs lives in the public repository, where anyone can read it, run it, and audit every line.
What AGPL means, in plain words
Section titled “What AGPL means, in plain words”- You can use, modify, and self-host Thalermark, free, forever. For yourself, for clients, for a co-op, commercially. No seat counts, no feature gates.
- The one obligation: if you modify Thalermark and run your modified copy as a service for other people, you must offer those people your modified source code. Improvements to shared software stay shared.
- Running an unmodified copy, or a modified copy just for yourself, asks nothing of you.
That’s a summary, not the license; the license text is the real thing.
The commercial license
Section titled “The commercial license”Some organizations want to embed Thalermark inside a closed-source product (a proprietary client portal, a vertical SaaS, an appliance) where AGPL’s share-your-changes rule doesn’t fit. For them, the same code is available under a separate commercial license. Email hello@thalermark.com with what you’re building and we’ll respond within five business days.
The community edition is not a teaser for that. It is the whole product, AGPL, always.
Contributing
Section titled “Contributing”Contributions are welcome: CONTRIBUTING.md covers the workflow. Before a first merge, contributors sign a lightweight CLA: you keep the copyright to your work, and the project gains the right to ship it under both licenses, which is what keeps dual-licensing legally sound.
The name
Section titled “The name”“Thalermark” and the struck-mark logo are trademarks of the project. The license covers the code, not the name: a fork is welcome, but it needs its own name before it’s distributed, and can’t imply we endorse it.
